The Gardener-in-Residence (gir) is a year long site specific project at winslow house project (whp) in Vallejo California. It was created in 2025 by olivia ronan in cahoots will kim frazar. The gir is a confluence of cultivating thyme and timefullness on a square of land which is densely forested by coast live oak, olive, pepper, redwood, and buckeye trees. On a map it looks like a patch of green surrounded by greyscape.

the aim of the gir is to support the wild and rambling beauty of the garden as well as making an intimate personal studying of the climate over the course of the year. The ethos of my personal practice is to prune minimally, leave weeds, rake & clear pathways in cahoots with chickens, pick up sticks, broadcast seeds, and begin to cultivate herbs for  a medicinal/kitchen herb garden on the south side of the house. It is a co-creative thing we are making. The outcome of it all has yet to be summarized. For now I sharpen my physical senses and my sense of nonsense in the work I am doing. To my mind gardening is a conspiracy between soul and soil.
